A Royal Background
Emjaiye Royale is a 26 year old West Side, Chicago hip hop emcee. While she considers herself mainly an emcee/rapper, she is a performance artist (engaging in the arts of singing, acting, voice acting and poetry). The young artist looks to the following artists as sources of inspiration: Lisa 'Lefteye' Lopes, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator. She utilizes her music to discuss different topics such as her own experiences being a daughter, under and inner standing the world around her, unveiling Black issues, and using storytelling to walk through the lives of others.
Emjaiye started making music after graduating college after being heavily involved in the arts since a young age. She took her craft seriously at age 22 and started cultivating her sound and brand years after that. She uses her backgrounds in voice acting and theater to create stories and perspectives that makes a listener envision details in their heads. The female rapper also utilizes different sounds such as Lo-Fi, boom bap, and modern Hip Hop sounds. Royale is often compared to the likes of Queen Latifah, Noname and Tierra Whack.
Royale debuted her first single, "2 A.M. (What That Backstage Do)" in 2022. The single gained attention from countries around the world such as the United States, Sudan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and United Arab Emirates. In the song, she discusses her everyday life and how she uses late nights to cope and distress over a melodic Lo-Fi hip hop beat. It is regarded as being a "genuine hip hop vibe" and brings "classic hip hop element with a modern twist."
Royale has performed at various shows and venues. These shows include: Emcee Skool (an organization comprised of musical artists that are trained to be peace ambassadors) performances since 2020, The Sunsets Concert (2020), Blaq Marquette Speakeasy (2020), Hip Hop in Chinatown (2021), R&B Night (2022), and The Passion Park Experience (2022).
Overall, Emjaiye Royale's mission is to share herself in creative ways to be able to connect with other people. Music is her life force and she hopes to relate and inspire people through her music.
